A six-year-old transgender girl will be able to return to school after winning the right to use the female bathroom.
Coy Mathis was told she would have to use the toilet in the teacher's lounge or nurse's office at Eagleside Elementary School, in Fountain near Colorado Springs, when she returned after the Christmas holidays.
Her parents Kathryn and Jeremy Mathis filed a complaint against the school, fearing the rule would stigmatise the youngster and leave her open to bullying.
Coy was homeschooled for the rest of the school year as the complaint was considered by Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8.
The New York-based Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund announced the ruling in favor of Coy Mathis on Sunday.
